Red light therapy (RLT) is being studied for its potential to treat cancer and manage cancer-related symptoms. It involves the use of low-energy red light with wavelengths between 630 to 700 nanometers to regenerate cells and improve blood flow. RLT is not a form of radiation therapy or chemotherapy, and it does not damage DNA. Instead, it works by stimulating the cell’s energy source, mitochondria, which can improve cell function, reduce inflammation, and promote healing.

However, the use of RLT in cancer treatment is still in the investigational stages

In cancer care, RLT is being explored for its ability to relieve pain and inflammation, particularly for patients experiencing side effects from cancer treatments, such as oral mucositis (mouth sores). It may also help manage pain and inflammation in general.

For patients with cancer or a history of cancer, it is advisable to seek advice from a healthcare professional before considering red light therapy.
